In his review, Roger Ebert asserted that "This movie has no plot in a conventional sense. It is simply a series of ugly and bloody episodes strung together one after another like a demo tape by a perverted special-effects man" and to be honest, he's correct, but that's precisely what makes it enjoyable for me, and a solid twenty years since the film's release, the scene with a resurrected, skinless Julia poking through the bloody mattress to assimilate a hapless inmate still manages to make me wince.
